Biography

Born in Pennsylvania, Richard Mallen began practicing law in 1979 after working as an electrical engineer.

A consumer rights and civil trial lawyer specializing in helping people with insurance, serious injury and death claims, Richard F. Mallen has practiced law in Illinois and other states representing men, women, children and their families in State and Federal Courts.

He has successfully handled a wide variety of cases - serious work injuries, construction accidents, vehicle crashes, dangerous machines, defective products and medical malpractice cases.

Richard F. Mallen is a 1975 engineering graduate of the University of Illinois and has been a registered professional engineer. He attended IIT/Chicago - Kent College of Law and was licensed as an attorney in 1979.

Active in many legal and civic organizations, Richard F. Mallen has been an author and speaker on injury cases, drunk driving crashes, civil litigation and legislation for bar associations, community and professional groups for more than 25 years.

He was elected chairman of the Chicago Bar Association Tort Litigation Committee and has been a member of that group for 28 years, pushing to advance the rights of those injured or killed by negligence.

Richard F. Mallen has worked with investigative reporters to right wrongs and correct injustice as seen on local and national television news. His recent cases have resulted in stories about dangerous road reflectors and helping change the Chicago Public School's policy on paddling athletes. He was honored as Citizen of the Year by the Illinois State Crime Commission for his work reforming alcohol related crash laws in Illinois and serving as the president of Mothers against Drunk Driving, Dupage County Chapter for many years.

Recognized by the Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) for his expertise in workplace safety, Mr. Mallen was appointed an administrative law Judge to hear the IDOL's case arising out of the 22 death and injuries in the 69 W. Washington Chicago Loop high-rise fire. Under his guidance, the case was settled to all parties' satisfaction.

Richard Mallen also has an interest in teaching and mentoring law students and has taught the Litigation Lab advanced trial course to 2nd and 3rd year law students at Depaul University College of Law in Chicago.

Mallen is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, American Association for Justice, Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Safety Engineers, and American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers. He has been a certified scuba diver, licensed motorcycle rider and holder of an FCC advanced class radio license for more then thirty years.

Mallen has been recognized as an "Illinois Super Lawyer" by Illinois lawyers and welcomes questions from the public, media, or legal profession regarding injury or death matters.
